After a few months’ hiatus and a web site makeover, I’m happy to relaunch to WineMemoirs.com. My friends Matt and John at the Creative Center in Wilsonville, Oregon (www.creativecenter.com) put a fresh new face on this blog, one that we’ll continue to enhance with new bells and whistles; however, since the site is now built using more sophisticated WordPress software (www.wordpress.com), we’ll crawl before we walk. That’s why you see a very simple survey, our first, in the righthand margin on the site: Do you prefer red or white wine?

As I write this post, no one has been notified that WineMemoirs.com is back up and running, so the survey results are deadlocked at 1-1: Matt apparently prefers white wine, and I prefer red (though a nice peachy bottle of Sauvignon Blanc could sway me).

It wouldn’t take much right now. I’m drinking a glass of Finca El Portillo (Argentina) Merlot, and I’m just not that crazy about it. With each sip, I hope that it’s going to get better, and with each sip, I’m disappointed. Damned if I can taste the rich, ripe berry fruit suggested on the label. Since you’re not around to cast the vote that sends it down the kitchen sink, I’m going to make an executive decision. One more chance, and if it fails to woo my palate, it’s headed for the septic system. Well… maybe I’ll give it a few more chances as I tap away at the keyboard (hey, a critic needs to keep the brain cells hydrated).

While I do that, I’ll conclude tonight’s brief “Welcome Back” post. Thanks again for stopping by.
